Laurie's House

 

Lori’s House is an important resource to the women and children of Franklin County Vermont who may be living with the pain and vulnerability of domestic violence. For obvious reasons, they are a quiet organization that cannot do much in the way of public appeals for support. They get very little in the way of donations from individuals and most of their funding is subject to the ebb and flow of supportive services through the State of Vermont.

I discovered the shelter’s need for support when my mother began helping them around the holidays, providing Christmas gifts for needy families. She would also head to the Kmart from time to time to pick up a cart load of essential clothing such as pajamas, kid’s sweat suits and underwear and socks, that are often in short supply as temporary residents pass through the shelter.

When I learned about the shortcomings of their funding situation, and the great work they do through their other outreach, I was hooked!
